Ayurveda 2

The Hungarian Ayurveda Medical Foundation PUO was founded in 1996, with the aim of ensuring a scientific and financial background for the introduction of the ancient Indian medical science of Ayurveda to Hungary, and to spread its knowledge and teachings amongst medical and healthcare experts and the greater public, in order to elevate the general health-level of Hungarian people.

The reasons for the creation of the Foundation:

The medical system of Ayurveda– which is as old as the first civilizations – was created 5000 years ago, as an integral part of the Vedas. The word Ayurveda originates from Sanscrit and has the meaning of „the science of long and healthy life” (ayu = life, veda = science). The ancient knowledge of Ayurveda has also served as a base for the works of Hippocrates (in the 4th-5th centuries B.C.), for the Chinese doctors and philosophers (in the 1st century B.C.), and for the works of Harun Al Rasid and other Arabic doctors (in the 7th century A.D.). The broad knowledge of the medical system of Ayurveda, which is written down in the ancient medical books of Charaka Samhita (from the 5th century B.C.) and Chakradatta (from the 11th century A.D.) can serve as a base of relevance for the doctors and health-care experts of the modern age too. The methods and practices written down in these books may provide modern medical systems with effective supplementary methods and medicines. For these reasons the recognition and appreciation of the ancient knowledge of Ayurveda has a major significance from the point of view of health-care and health-protection nowadays too.

Nowadays, Ayurveda is one of the three biggest healing-systems of the world (besides Chinese and Western medicine), offering effective and natural curing methods to almost two billion people around the world. With the growing awareness of the limitations and dangerous side-effects of allopathic medicine and sythetic curative-agents, the answer for todays challanges of medicine is Ayurveda, using natural and time-tested healing methods and medical preparations, which are safe, effective and eco-friendly.

To achieve the above mentioned goal the Foundation supports:

the education and specialization in India of Hungarian doctors, pharmacists, young researchers, university- and PhD-students and health-care experts by the organization and announcement of exchanges of experts, scholarships and research projects between enterprises,
the invitation to Hungary and accomodation of Ayurveda doctors, university teachers and experts from India in order to organize courses and lectures on the subject of Ayurveda,
the carrying out of comparative clinical experiments at Hungarian hospitals, healthcare institutions and farms, and the publication of the results of these experiments in different kinds of media,
the translation into Hungarian language of books and articles, the creation of films, the publication of guides and brochures, the organization of and participation at conferences on the subject of Ayurveda, in order to create a permanent flow of information towards the Hungarian health-care experts and the whole population.
